Attorney Thomas Mauriello Will Address the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Public Investor Arbitration Bar Association (“PIABA”) in San Diego in October 2016

Thomas D. Mauriello will address the 2016 annual meeting of the Public Investor Arbitration Bar Association (“PIABA”) in San Diego in October. Tom will be a member of the panel discussing “DISCOVERY IN CUSTOMER ARBITRATION PROCEEDINGS.” Tom’s presentation is titled “Beyond the Discovery Guide: Formulating Discovery Requests for Particular Cases” and will include appropriate discovery requests in various securities disputes, including product cases, “selling away” cases, and suitability cases.

PIABA ( is an international bar association whose members represent investors in disputes with the securities industry.

In addition, Tom serves on the PIABA Legislation Committee, in which he has actively drafted comments on proposed legislation affecting investors and outreach materials on investor rights matters, and he was privileged to represent PIABA’s lobbying efforts in the United States Congress in Washington, DC in March of 2016.

Tom Mauriello founded the Mauriello Law Firm, APC in 1996, based in the Orange County city of San Clemente, after working at a large national plaintiffs’ securities class action firm and several small firms in San Diego. Tom focuses on investment and consumer disputes, with customer FINRA arbitrations constituting a large part of his practice, as well as commercial litigation, consumer class actions, appeals, administrative law, and commercial real estate and land use.

Tom is a member of the California, New Jersey and Pennsylvania bars. He received his BA from Brown University in 1983 and his JD from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1988. Prior to law school, he worked as a corporate paralegal in New York City for a Wall Street law firm representing companies and underwriters in securities offerings with the SEC and state securities agencies. Following law school, Tom served as a judicial clerk to Judge Robert E. Cowen of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in New Jersey and Philadelphia.

In addition to his work with PIABA, Tom serves on serves on the Administration of Justice Committee, the Mandatory Fee Arbitration Committee (as an attorney-client fee arbitrator), and the Mentoring Committee of the Orange County Bar Association. Tom also has a deep commitment to environmental issues, and from 2012 through 2015, Tom served as Co-Chair of the Legal Committee of the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club.
